an eclectic story

Eclectic Theatre was founded in January 2005 in Dresden with the aim of promoting English language culture and intercultural communication through the performing arts with particular emphasis on public performances of plays.
Eclectic Theatre is international and multicultural. Members and supporters over time have included students and professionals from Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, the UK, the USA, South Africa and Syria. Choice of plays is not limited in any way: from Greek tragedy to new writing, we produce involving and engaging theatre within a wide range of genres and styles.
As a theatre company resident at Theaterhaus Rudi in Dresden, Eclectic Theatre e.V. is a member of the Landesverband AmateurTheater Sachsen e.V. (LATS), the umbrella organisation for amateur theatre groups in Saxony, and also cooperates with The Dresden Anglo-German Association.
Artistic Director
Michael Halstead is from the UK, and has been involved in theatre as an actor, director and playwright for over 40 years. His first play was premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1982 where it was nominated for a Fringe First award. Since then several of his plays have been produced in Oxford, Prague, Dresden and elsewhere. From 1991 to 1998 he lived in Prague where he was the Artistic Director of Exposure Theatre Company as well as acting both onstage and in films. He came to Dresden in 2000 and works as a freelance drama teacher, writer and translator in addition to his post as the founder and artistic director of Eclectic Theatre.
